Scotland's westernmost mainland county, Argyll and Bute, can be found in the Highlands area of Scotland, which includes the northern and western parts of Scotland, as well as many of its islands. The county has an area of 603 square miles and had an estimated population of 132,700 in 2012, making it the third-least populated of Scotland's 32 counties. It has five town council areas and seven community council areas but no cities or large towns to speak of - the largest towns are Oban (12,500), Campbeltown (6,400) and Rothesay (5,200).
