West Lothian Council is one of the 32 local authorities in Scotland, created in 1996 by the Local Government etc (Scotland) Act 1994, which re-organised local government on the boundaries of the former region and districts of Tayside, Central and Fife. The area is located in eastern central Scotland about 25 miles from Edinburgh, West Lothian's largest town is Livingston and its administrative centre is Bathgate.
