Shropshire lies in the West Midlands, bordering on Wales and Cheshire in the North and Staffordshire to the South East. The population of Shropshire as of the 2001 census was 366,187 people, and with an area of 2,369 km2 (915 sq.mi) it is one of the smaller counties in England. There are five main towns within Shropshire; Telford is home to almost 150,000 people, Newport holds a population of just over 50,000 residents while Craven Arms and Oswestry have populations of around 20,000 each. Bridgnorth has a population of just under 15,000 residents.
