East Dunbartonshire sits between two world-famous counties. Glasgow, Scotland's largest city and the UK's third most populous urban area, sits to the west of East Dunbartonshire and to the east of Stirlingshire and Dumbartonshire lies Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, Scotland's most popular tourist destination after Edinburgh itself. Despite all this easy access, East Dunbartonshire remains relatively under-the-radar, home to only 40,000 people in total with little in the way of industry or commerce to attract outsiders. East Dunbartonshire Council has recorded a population rise of 1.5% in 2015 which is lower than both Scotland’s 1.7% growth and the UK average of 2.3%. This small increase could be due to increased foreign immigration as major employers like Nissan and Sony employ international staff at their factories in East Kilbride and Bishopbriggs. The housing statistics for East Dunbartonshire are more intriguing as there has been a 12% decrease in occupied households from 18,500 to 16,500.
