The county of North Ayrshire is situated in the west of Scotland and borders the counties of Renfrewshire to the north, South Ayrshire to the east, East Ayrshire to the south and South Lanarkshire to the west. The administrative centre of North Ayrshire Council is Irvine, with other main towns including Kilmarnock, Prestwick and Troon, although there are plenty of other small villages and towns across this landlocked part of Scotland with Loch Lomond National Park being one of its most popular tourist attractions. The population density for the region is about 70 people per square mile. Also, the county has one of Scotland’s youngest populations; over half of its residents are under 45 years old.
